Eat one long street a bite at a time

“Ordering one small thing and eating it by yourself, then doing it again two doors down, feels conspicuous the first three times. After that the street stops being a set of strangers.”

The Recipe

  1. Pick the longest food street near you: the one packed with places you've never chosen between.
  2. Start at one end and walk the whole thing once first, choosing nothing yet.
  3. Go back to the start and enter the first place that made you curious.
  4. Order one small thing, the house thing if they have one, and eat it there.
  5. Move to the next place that pulls you and do it again: one bite, not a meal.
  6. Talk to whoever serves you at least once; ask what you should have got instead.
  7. Keep going down the street until you're genuinely full, not until you run out of places.
  8. Sit somewhere at the end and write down the best single bite of the day.
