Walk out to the tidal island before the sea comes back
“The causeway is only there a few hours, and the whole way out you are doing the maths on when it closes. That running clock is exactly what makes a flat walk worth doing.”
The Recipe
- Find a tidal island, sandbank or causeway near the city reachable on foot only at low tide, and read the crossing times before anything else.
- Start across at least an hour before the tide turns, on the causeway or the firm sand, not the mud.
- Set yourself a hard turnaround time on the way out and hold to it.
- Spend your time on the far side, walking its edge and finding what only the low tide uncovers.
- Cross back inside your own safety margin, not at the last possible minute.
