Climb a wall on a rope and let go at the top
“Leaning back to let a rope take your weight, high above the mats, feels exactly as wrong as your body insists it is. The moment you actually do it and the rope holds is the whole point, and the way down is easy after that.”
The Recipe
- Go to the nearest indoor climbing wall and take the induction for the auto-belay lanes, where you can climb on a rope without a partner.
- Rent shoes and a harness at the desk and clip into the first lane that is free.
- Climb one route to the very top, however slowly, and touch the last hold.
- Instead of climbing back down, sit into the harness, let go with both hands, and let the belay lower you to the floor.
