Draw the model at a life-drawing class

“Your first drawings will be too big for the page and out of proportion and you will want to hide them. Nobody in a life room is looking at your paper, and the two-minute poses fix more than a term of thinking would.”

The Recipe

  1. Find a drop-in life-drawing session near you (a studio, an art school, a pub back room) the first one that runs, most need no booking.
  2. Take the cheap paper and charcoal they have, or bring your own, and sit where there is a space.
  3. Draw every pose, including the fast ones, without stopping to judge what you have done.
  4. Keep the one drawing that got something right and let the rest go.
