Walk every single street of one small district

“The main roads are done in an hour. It is the cul-de-sacs and closes, the ones there is never any reason to enter, that make it a whole day and show you where people actually live.”

The Recipe

  1. Pick a small district or postcode you can pick apart in a day, and get its street map.
  2. Get to one corner of it first thing.
  3. Walk every street of it, crossing each off as you go.
  4. Go up every dead end, close and turning circle and back out; the cul-de-sacs are the point, not a waste.
  5. Eat somewhere inside the district, wherever you have reached by midday.
  6. Keep at the small streets in the afternoon; the last uncrossed ones are always the most hidden.
  7. Walk the final unwalked street and stand at the point that completes the whole area.
  8. Look at the finished map, every street walked, and see what living there is actually like.
