Bring a bottle and fill it from the barrel

“Turning up with an empty bottle feels like you have got the wrong shop. Buying something loose, by the litre, is how most of the world shopped until recently.”

The Recipe

  1. Find the nearest place that sells something loose: olive oil from a drum, wine or cider from a barrel, vinegar, soy, milk from a churn.
  2. Take a clean bottle, have them fill it, and taste it before you commit to how much.
  3. Bring it home and use it while it is fresher than anything sealed.
