Float inks and pull a marbled sheet
“You have almost no control over where the colour goes, and that is exactly why the sheet you lift off looks like nothing you could have drawn.”
The Recipe
- Get a paper-marbling kit from the nearest art shop, or take the next introductory session a studio runs.
- Fill a shallow tray with the water bath, drop the inks onto the surface, and comb them into a pattern with a stick or skewer.
- Lay a sheet of paper flat onto the surface for a few seconds, then peel it off and set it out to dry.
- Do it three or four times, changing one thing each pull, and keep the one that surprised you most.
