Follow one waterway from where you meet it to where it ends
“Some stretches are ugly and dull and you'll wonder why you're still walking. Stay on it; the water always goes somewhere you didn't expect.”
The Recipe
- Find the nearest river, canal or stretch of coast to where you live.
- Pick a direction (downstream, or towards the sea) and commit to it before you start.
- Walk with the water on the same side the whole way, crossing only when you must.
- Don't look up where it goes; let it show you.
- Stop once, wherever you happen to be, and eat something you brought.
- Keep going until the water ends: the sea, a lake, or where the path finally leaves it.
- Mark the spot however you like, then turn and find the quickest way home.
