Hire a paddleboard and get to your feet on the water
“The board feels steady until you try to stand, and then it wobbles like it wants you off, and you will go in at least once. Getting up and taking a few strokes on your feet is a balance you did not have an hour ago.”
The Recipe
- Go to the nearest hire on open water (a harbour, lake, canal or calm river) and rent a paddleboard with the buoyancy aid they give you.
- Start on your knees and paddle away from the edge until you have clear water around you.
- Once you are out, plant the paddle, bring one foot up then the other, and stand.
- When you fall in, climb back on and stand up again.
