Learn one tune on a tin whistle

“The first ten minutes are squeaks and wrong notes and you will feel about six years old. A tin whistle is built so that in an hour you can actually play a tune, which is the whole point of it.”

The Recipe

  1. Buy a tin whistle in D from the nearest music shop: it is the cheapest real instrument there is.
  2. Learn the fingering for one simple, well-known tune from a single tab or lesson.
  3. Play it slowly, wrong notes and all, until you can get from the start to the end.
  4. Play it once more at something like the right speed.
