Learn to read one silver hallmark

The Recipe
- Find silver you can get close to (the nearest antiques shop or market, or a silver case in a museum) and pick one piece with a row of small punched marks along an edge or the base.
- Using the shop's book or a marks chart on your phone, work out its assay city and the year letter.
