Cross the water by the stepping stones, not the bridge

“One stone in the middle never looks close enough, and the water is moving. Your foot lands and it holds, and you are across a river without a bridge.”

The Recipe

  1. Find the nearest place a stream or river is crossed by stepping stones or a shallow ford, not a bridge, and take the first one you find, not the prettiest.
  2. Cross it on foot without putting a hand down.
  3. Turn round and cross back.
