Stitch a small piece in an embroidery hoop

“The first row will be uneven and you will want to unpick it, but leave it, because by the third you will have the rhythm and the wobble stops looking wrong.”

The Recipe

  1. At the nearest craft or haberdashery shop, pick up a hoop, a scrap of plain fabric, a needle and a few thread colours.
  2. Draw a simple shape straight onto the fabric (the first thing that comes to mind, not the best idea) and clamp it tight in the hoop.
  3. Fill the line with whatever stitch the shop assistant shows you, or the first one you find you can do.
  4. Trim the back, keep it in the hoop, and hang it where you will see it.
