Take a drop-in improv class and build a scene with a stranger
“You will freeze, your mind will go blank, and the whole room is watching. But improv only works when nobody has prepared, so a blank mind is the right equipment, not a failure.”
The Recipe
- Find the nearest theatre or comedy school running a drop-in or beginners' improv class, and book the first one, not the best-rated.
- Turn up knowing no one and say out loud that it is your first time.
- Say yes to every offer your scene partner makes, and add one thing of your own, even when you have no idea where it goes.
- Stay for the whole class, including the last exercise you want to skip.
