Cross a hill neighbourhood by its staircases only
“The roads switchback for cars and take forever. The public steps go straight up, and stringing them together is a proper climb no map will hand you.”
The Recipe
- Go to the hilliest part of the city you know and find its public staircases, the pedestrian steps that cut between streets on different levels.
- Cross the neighbourhood from bottom to top using the steps wherever the choice exists, never the switchback road.
- String them into one continuous climb, coming back to the steps every time a road tempts you.
- At the top, take the longest staircase you can find all the way back down.
