Photograph one thing until you have the whole set
“It feels like a pointless errand for the first hour. Then you cannot stop seeing the thing you chose.”
The Recipe
- Before you leave, pick one small thing the city is full of and you have stopped seeing (postboxes, carved date-stones, hand-painted signs, drinking fountains) and commit to it for the day.
- Start at your own front door and photograph the first one you pass.
- Work outward on foot and shoot every one you find, not the good ones.
- Cross into a district you never walk through and keep counting.
- Stop for lunch only once you have twenty.
- Go back for the one you walked past because you assumed you would find better.
- When the light goes, stop, and cut the day down to the ten you would keep.
- Count how many you found in a single day.
