Hire a rod and fish one spot until you catch something or give up
“The boredom arrives fast and you feel foolish holding a rod you cannot use. Somewhere in the second hour the line goes tight, or it does not, and either way you learned to wait.”
The Recipe
- Find the nearest pier, canal or lake that hires rods and sells a day permit: the first that fits, not the best swim.
- Get set up by whoever runs the hire, and have them show you to cast and bait once.
- Fish one spot for at least an hour before you think about moving.
- Land whatever takes the bait, or pack up honestly at your own cut-off.
